Having four seizures in one night is not necessarily persistent status epilepticus.
Persistent status epilepticus is defined as recurrent seizures with incomplete recovery of consciousness between seizures, or seizures that last for more than 30 minutes at a time and do not stop on their own.
The number of seizures varies from person to person and is related to many factors, such as different causes of epilepsy, different types of epilepsy, the presence or absence of regular medication, and the specificity of the medication. Some patients can go for years without having a seizure, some can have multiple occurrences in January, and some can have multiple seizures in a day, or even have persistent status epilepticus.
Epilepsy with four seizures in one night is a frequent seizure and should be treated promptly to find the cause and adjust the medication to avoid further development of persistent status epilepticus.
