The TIPS procedure, i.e., transjugular intrahepatic portal vein stent shunt, is one of the interventions for the treatment of portal hypertension, i.e., esophagogastric fundal varices. Postoperative swelling of the feet may be due to venous thrombosis in the bedridden lower extremities or accumulation of venous fluid in the lower extremities due to cardiac insufficiency. Tips surgery can be traumatic, especially for the elderly or those in poor physical condition, and the recovery care required after surgery, and bed rest may be longer. As a result of prolonged bed rest, it is easier to form venous thrombosis in the lower extremities, which in turn leads to swelling in the legs and feet and other blocked or narrowed areas. It may also be due to the fact that the cardiac function of middle-aged and old people is poor, fasting before and after the operation to replenish fluids, fast or a large number of inputs into the heart too late to compensate for the emergence of venous fluid blood return slow, stagnation in the lower extremity veins leading to the above situation. It is recommended to inform the doctor in charge of the situation such as swelling of legs and feet after the operation, avoid getting out of bed suddenly, and follow the doctor’s instructions to improve the relevant examinations and treatments.
