High prolactin is the result of female sex hormone test. It may be caused by recent lack of rest, or it may be a normal phenomenon during breastfeeding, or it may be caused by pituitary tumor, primary hypothyroidism and other diseases.
1. Physiological factors: recent lack of rest, or recent mental stress, the body is in a state of stress, may lead to increased prolactin, this situation just need to rest, relax.
2. Breastfeeding: It is normal for prolactin to rise during breastfeeding, which is caused by the stimulation of the anterior pituitary gland’s continuous secretion of prolactin due to the baby’s sucking of breast milk, so there is no need to worry too much.
3. Pituitary tumor: patients with pituitary tumor may have hyperprolactinemia, which is caused by abnormal proliferation and secretion of the pituitary gland, and patients may also have amenorrhea, lactation, infertility and other symptoms.
4. Primary hypothyroidism: in patients with primary hypothyroidism, due to the increase of thyrotropin-releasing hormone, the pituitary gland can be stimulated to secrete too much prolactin.
If physiological factors are ruled out, and prolactin is found to be too high, the patient should consult a doctor as soon as possible and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
