Propecia has no definitive effect on EBV. Little treatment beyond supportive care is needed for people with initial EBV infection. Even in clinical situations where antiviral therapy or immunomodulation may yield satisfactory results, it is not clear that it is effective against EBV. EBV infection is treated primarily with supportive care. Acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are recommended for the treatment of fever, throat discomfort, and generalized malaise. Adequate fluids and nutrition are also appropriate. There have been case reports of the use of other medications such as interleukin-2, interferon alpha, and intravenous immunoglobulin in EBV-associated disease. No clear benefit of these drugs has been demonstrated, except for possible effectiveness in lymphomatoid granulomatosis. Therefore, the use of propecia is not recommended for EBV-infected patients, and the drugs should be administered under the supervision of a physician.
