Sanghuang is the substrate of the fungus Firewood Laminaria of the family Polyporaceae, which is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine.
Sanghuang is also known as Sangsang Shang Parasite, Sangchen, Tree Chicken, etc. It is slightly bitter in flavor and cold in nature. It belongs to liver and kidney meridians. It has the efficacy of activating blood circulation, stopping bleeding, resolving drinking and stopping diarrhea. It is often used in treating hematochezia, hemorrhagic drenching (the appearance of blood in the urine accompanied by pain), prolapse of anus and diarrhea, diarrhea, menstrual closure, obstruction in the abdomen, fetishism and drinking, and diarrhea due to spleen deficiency (diarrhea caused by weakness of the spleen).
Pound Sang Huang and Xiang Fu into powder, and make pills of honey as big as paulownia seeds. Use before meals and take twenty pills with congee to cure prolapse of anus and diarrhea with blood.
