What to do about iliotibial bundle syndrome

Iliotibial bundle syndrome can be treated medically or surgically.
The iliotibial fascia is a longitudinal band of tendon membrane formed by the thickening of the broad fascia on the lateral side of the thigh, starting from the outer edge of the iliac crest at the top and ending at the lateral tibial condyle at the bottom, and the longitudinal fibers are particularly developed and tough. Iliotibial fascia syndrome is mainly caused by over-exercise and inappropriate physical training, and is common in lateral knee injuries caused by running. Treatment is as follows:
1. Medication: patients can use ointment that activates blood circulation and removes blood stasis, reduces swelling and relieves pain, such as Yunnan Baiyao and other diclofenac cream, etc., externally on the painful part. If the pain is more serious, oral anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as Loxoprofen can be taken to relieve the discomfort.
2. Surgery: For more serious lesions, surgery can be considered, most of which is to loosen adhesions, promote smooth local activities, relieve local compression symptoms, relax the iliotibial bundle, local soft tissue laxation, relief of symptoms or cure, so that the pain symptoms to reduce or completely disappear.
All medications need to be under the guidance of a doctor, do not self-medication, according to the different stages of the disease, the treatment will be different, timely consultation, standardized treatment.
