What’s wrong with hiccups and earaches?

Pain in the ear canal during hiccups may be caused by cerumen impaction, acute otitis media, inflammation of the external ear canal, inflammation of the throat and so on. 1. Cerumen impaction: accumulation of cerumen caused by exuberant secretion of ceruminous glands and obstruction of cerumen discharge can cause obstruction of the external auditory canal, resulting in pain in the ear when hiccups occur, which may also be accompanied by hearing loss and a sense of nasal congestion in the ear. 2. Acute otitis media: mostly related to upper respiratory tract infection, there are tympanic membrane congestion, tympanic membrane vibration when hiccups, may cause tympanic membrane pain, which in turn manifests as ear pain. 3. Inflammation of the external auditory canal: inflammation of the external auditory canal such as edema of the skin of the external auditory canal, oozing, etc., when hiccups stimulate the inner ear, the swelling of the ear canal around the muscle pulling may cause pain. 4. Inflammation of the throat: such as tonsillitis, hiccups may cause pain in the throat, the pain can be radiated through the glossopharyngeal nerve to the wall of the ear canal, causing radiating pain in the ear. Ear pain when hiccups are not limited to the above reasons, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to find out the cause of ear pain and actively treat it to avoid delaying the condition.
