How long does a course of Betahistine tablets usually take?

  Generally speaking, betahistine tablets should be taken for 2 weeks as a course of treatment, but the specific duration of administration should be decided by the doctor according to the condition.  Betahistine tablets are mainly composed of betahistine hydrochloride, which has the function of dilating blood vessels, improving circulation, reducing endolymphatic edema, lowering inner ear pressure and lowering resting potential of vestibular receptors, and are clinically used for the treatment of Meniere’s syndrome, vascular headache, cerebral arteriosclerosis, acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease, upright vertigo caused by hypertension and tinnitus. Usually 2 weeks is a course of treatment, and patients can use it for 1-2 months, but the specific duration of medication is decided according to the patient’s condition. If the symptoms disappear in about 3 days, the medication can be stopped; if the medication does not work in 1 week, further examination is needed.  In addition, side effects of betahistine include dry mouth, stomach discomfort, palpitations, itchy skin, nausea, dizziness, head swelling, sweating, etc. Therefore, patients need to drink more water during taking the drug to promote drug absorption and metabolism. Also, patients with peptic ulcer and bronchial asthma should use with caution.
