The dangers of eating iodine

Eating iodine is very harmful. Iodine is a highly concentrated disinfectant solution and should not be taken orally. Accidental consumption of iodine can manifest as damage to the mucous membrane of the tongue, mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract, and in severe cases can lead to local ulceration and manifestations of poisoning. In case of accidental poisoning, the patient should be immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
