Ambroxol can relieve cough. Ambroxol is a phlegm-modifying agent whose mechanism of action is to cleave the mucopolysaccharides in the phlegm, thereby diluting the phlegm and helping it to be expelled by promoting the movement of the cilia. The reduction in phlegm allows antibiotics to work better and helps control lung infections, thus functioning to reduce coughing. However, Ambroxol does not have direct cough suppressant effect, so if there is no cough sputum, taking Ambroxol is ineffective, it is recommended to take some cough suppressant drugs, such as cotrimoxazole, dextromethorphan and so on.
