Mumps is an acute respiratory infection caused by the mumps virus that invades the human body. The mumps virus can invade not only the parotid gland but also the meninges, pancreas, and testes, making it prone to complications such as meningoencephalitis, meningitis, pancreatitis, and orchitis, and therefore requiring hospitalization. At present, there are no specific antiviral drugs for mumps virus, but mainly symptomatic treatment is given, such as physical cooling or medication to reduce fever when high fever occurs. In case of pain, analgesic drugs can be given. It is important to pay attention to oral hygiene and avoid eating acidic foods. Mumps occurs mostly in children and adolescents and can develop throughout the year, but is more common in spring, with a high incidence from February to May each year.
