Is cerebral infarction foci serious?

The severity of brain infarction depends on the site of infarction and the size of the infarction. If the infarction site of the patient is located in the brain stem, the lesion is not large, but the patient will still have symptoms such as choking on water, difficulty in swallowing, and dizziness and unstable walking. Therefore, brainstem infarction is more serious. Furthermore, if the infarct is located in the area where the fibers of the pyramidal tracts of the basal ganglia travel, even if the lesion is small, the patient may still show symptoms such as weakness of the lateral limbs, numbness, and crookedness of the corners of the mouth. If the infarct is located in the occipital and temporal lobes, even if the lesion is large, the patient will only show symptoms such as psychiatric symptoms or hemianopia, and the limb will not be involved. Therefore, the severity of the infarct lesion depends on the location and size of the lesion.
