Eye ointment is a commonly used form of ophthalmology. Eye ointment is usually based on petroleum jelly, lanolin and mineral oil, also known as ointment. Since all of these bases are fat-soluble, they can significantly increase the absorption of fat-soluble drugs in the eye. To increase the contact time of the eye medication with the surface structures of the eye, eye ointments may be used. Eye ointments also have a moisturizing effect, such as dry eyes or inconvenient nighttime dosing or thyroid proptosis, which can reduce damage to the cornea after using an eye ointment. Another great advantage of eye ointment is that in case of eye surface injury, such as corneal epithelial defects, corneal ulcers, eye trauma or post-operative eye surgery, it can play a lubricating and padding role to slow down the symptoms of eye irritation, and also has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect on conjunctivitis, keratitis and corneal ulcers.
