Concussions aren’t really scary

  In our daily life, we often hear some patients or family members say, “I have suffered a very serious head injury and have a concussion” “I fell on my head, just don’t have a concussion”. In fact, head injury causing concussion is very common, and, concussion is not as terrible as we think. Concussion is a kind of minor brain injury, which is not only treatable, but also most of them do not have any after-effects, so we should not put ourselves down.  Concussion: It is a transient brain dysfunction that occurs immediately after a blow to the head from an external force. There is no significant change in pathological changes, and the mechanism of occurrence is still much debated. Clinical manifestations are transient coma, near-event amnesia and symptoms such as headache, nausea and vomiting, with no positive physical findings on neurological examination. It is the mildest type of brain injury and can be mostly cured with treatment.  Clinical manifestations of concussion: 1. Impairment of consciousness: it is mild and short-lived, which can be as short as seconds or minutes, but not more than 30 minutes.  2, near event amnesia: after waking up, you cannot recall the situation and the injury, but you can clearly recall the events before the injury.  3.Other symptoms: headache, dizziness, nausea, anorexia, vomiting, tinnitus, insomnia, photophobia, inattention and unresponsiveness are often present.  4.No positive signs in neurological examination.  Concussion auxiliary examination: 1.Cranial X-ray examination No fracture found.  2. Cranial CT scan No obvious abnormal changes in the skull and intracranial area.  Treatment of concussion: 1. Concussion patients generally do not need special treatment after injury, but they should stay in the hospital for 2-3 days for short-term observation and regular observation of changes in consciousness, pupils and vital signs in order to detect possible complications of intracranial hematoma in time.  2.Appropriate bed rest, reduce mental and physical work.  3.Symptomatic supportive treatment.  4.Because the prognosis of concussion is almost always better, patients should be given spiritual encouragement to eliminate worries.  In short, concussion is not scary, we head injury, if the hospital confirms that it is concussion, you should relax from the mind, relieve tension and continue daily life.
