Concussion refers to the transient brain dysfunction that occurs immediately after an external blow to the head. There are no significant pathological changes and the mechanism of occurrence is still much debated. Clinical manifestations are transient coma, retrograde amnesia and symptoms such as headache, nausea and vomiting, with no positive signs found on neurological examination. It is the mildest form of brain injury and is mostly curable with treatment. It can occur alone or in combination with other craniocerebral injuries such as intracranial hematoma, and attention should be paid to make a timely differential diagnosis. Diagnosis should pay attention to two points: (1) head injury immediately after the occurrence of transient coma, within 30 minutes, after waking up, there are often near-event amnesia, headache, dizziness, nausea, anorexia, vomiting, ringing in the ears, inattention and other symptoms, blood pressure, respiration and pulse is basically normal. (2) There are no positive signs in the neurological examination, and the cerebrospinal fluid pressure and composition are normal in the lumbar puncture examination. If the baby has brain oscillation, the time of vomiting cannot be speculated because vomiting may occur at any time. Generally, the baby may have severe vomiting during breastfeeding, or foaming at the mouth, which may be caused by vertigo caused by concussion. Parents should be alert at this time and seek medical attention if it occurs several times in a row. In addition to vomiting, the baby may also have a dazed gaze, confused eyes and no light focus, which may also be caused by concussion. Parents should let the baby rest in bed for a while, if they can recover, there is no harm, if there are other symptoms, should consider seeking medical attention. Falling out of bed may be an inevitable thing. Once it happens, don’t be too alarmed. Pick the baby up from the floor and do not move too hard to avoid other unnecessary injuries. Babies who are able to cry out immediately after a fall are generally less likely to have brain injuries. Small babies are most afraid of falling on the back of the head, if they fall face down, the general danger is less, only trauma treatment can be carried out. Even if you fall on your head, don’t always suspect a concussion. A concussion is characterized by a loss of consciousness and perception for a certain period of time. If a baby has vomiting, it may be vomiting due to shock, or it may be a temporary concussion of the brain, which usually clears up after two or three vomits, unlike a concussion. Even if it is a concussion, if it is mild, there will not be any after-effects. After a baby falls on its head, it should be observed for two days. Try to get more rest and less activity during these two days. If the spirit has been good and the appetite normal within two days, you can be completely at ease.
