How to read the labor and delivery non-invasive report card

A low-risk result on the NNT report card indicates a low risk of developing the disease, while a high risk requires prenatal diagnosis as prescribed by the doctor. Non-invasive refers to non-invasive prenatal testing technology, which is a test performed in the middle of pregnancy to screen for the risk of chromosomal disorders in the fetus, and is a secondary screening for high-risk groups. Non-invasive tests screen for three common chromosomal disorders: trisomy 18, trisomy 21, and trisomy 13. When the results indicate a low risk, the risk of developing the disorder is low, and when the risk is high, prenatal diagnosis should be ordered to clarify the situation. When the results of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) are low risk, the patient should follow the doctor’s instructions to have prenatal checkups on a regular basis. When a pregnant woman is at risk of chromosomal or genetic disorders, or when the fetus has structural abnormalities, NIPT is not recommended, and further prenatal counseling and prenatal diagnosis should be performed on medical advice.
