What causes pregnant women to snore

Snoring in pregnant women can have physiological causes, such as weight gain, increased secretion of estrogen and progesterone, and incorrect sleeping positions. There are also pathologic causes, such as inflammation (rhinitis, tonsillitis, etc.).
1. Physiological causes
(1) Weight gain during pregnancy: it makes the soft palate hypertrophied and the respiratory tract not smooth, which causes snoring during sleep. Therefore, it is necessary to control weight during pregnancy, and correct and effective weight control is an important way to reduce snoring.
(2) Increased secretion of estrogen and progesterone: pregnancy increases the secretion of estrogen and progesterone in the body, and the increase of these hormones will make the pharyngeal tissues edema and cause snoring due to unobstructed breathing during sleep.
(3) Incorrect Sleeping Posture: Sleeping in a flat position, too high or too low pillow during pregnancy may cause snoring. Therefore, it is better to adopt the side lying position and choose the right height of pillow.
2. Pathological causes
Inflammatory diseases such as rhinitis and tonsillitis will cause redness and swelling of nasal and pharyngeal tissues, which will block the airway and cause snoring symptoms.
There may be other reasons for snoring in pregnancy. If pregnant women cannot improve their snoring by adjusting sleeping position and controlling their weight, they should consult a doctor in time, so that the cause of snoring can be clarified after a complete examination, and then treated in a timely manner.
