How is chondrosarcoma multiforme treated?

Pathologic changes in endochondroma of short tubular bones may appear quite malignant, but are essentially benign. Endochondroma of long bones of the trunk or extremities may appear quite benign on pathological examination, but have a 10-15% rate of recurrence and malignant transformation. In choosing the treatment, it should be noted that for chondrosarcomas located in the hands and feet, complete scraping, 50% zinc chloride cautery of the bone wall, and bone grafting with cancellous bone fragments are feasible, while for those located in the trunk and long bones of the extremities, local whole-block resection and bone grafting are generally considered appropriate.
