What are the symptoms of paranasal sinusitis?

Paranasal sinusitis, or sinusitis, is categorized into acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis manifests itself in symptoms such as nasal congestion, purulent nasal discharge, headache, and olfactory impairment. Chronic paranasal sinusitis is characterized by nasal congestion, headache, cough and other symptoms. 1. Acute sinusitis: (1) Nasal congestion: it is caused by congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa, and a large amount of purulent nasal discharge leads to nasal congestion. (2) Purulent nasal mucus: there is a large amount of purulent nasal mucus with yellowish or grayish-green color due to the increase of nasal gland secretion caused by the stimulation of inflammatory factors. (3) Headache and localized pain: because of bacterial toxins and mucous membrane swelling stimulation leading to compression of nerves and causing headache and nasal pain. (4) Olfactory disorders: because the nasal mucosa is swollen, and the secretion is much, resulting in nasal congestion and the airflow can not enter the olfactory area, causing the sense of smell to decrease or even disappear. 2. Chronic sinusitis: In addition to the symptoms of acute paranasal sinusitis, such as nasal congestion, headache, purulent secretion, etc., it can be accompanied by cough and other symptoms. Sinusitis patients are recommended to seek medical treatment in time to clarify the diagnosis and cause of the disease, and then follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
