About Breast Cysts

About breast cysts 1. Breast cysts are very common in premenopausal women, with a high incidence in middle and late reproductive age and an increased incidence after the age of 35. 2. Various studies have reported that breast cysts exist in about 7-20% of women or more, and more than half of these cysts are multifocal. 3, Breast cysts are thought to be the result of lobular degeneration, which is usually caused by dilatation of the terminal ducts and alveoli. 4, Breast cysts can be distinguished as simple cysts, and complex cysts. Some of them are palpable, and some are not. 5.Ultrasound examination can help us to make a clearer diagnosis, followed by clinical examination and mammography and puncture examination. 6.For complex cysts, cysts with solid contents or atypical cysts, puncture or excisional biopsy is sometimes necessary according to the recommendation of the ultrasonographer or the consulting physician. 7. The distinction between simple cysts and complex cysts is mainly done by the physician. Usually, cysts that are more isolated, regular in morphology, with a single thin uniform cystic skin, without solid components, and with clearer cystic fluid from imaging are considered simple cysts. 8. Cyst puncture and aspiration is an optional diagnostic tool. If the punctured cyst fluid is bloody, suggesting the possibility of intracapsular papilloma or intracapsular carcinoma, excisional biopsy is necessary. 9.Studies prove that routine cytological examination of cyst puncture fluid is not beneficial. 10.The chance of cyst malignancy is very low, so excessive worry is not necessary. 11, Accumulated breast cysts are a common condition during lactation, where milk accumulates and forms fibrous wraps and is produced, and can be treated by suction or observed. 12.Simple breast cysts do not need treatment and can be reviewed regularly. Unless the cyst is large, resulting in localized elevation of the breast, which affects the aesthetics. 13.Puncture and aspiration is an effective method to treat cysts. Most cysts can be cured after one aspiration, while a small number of cysts need to be aspirated 2-3 times.
