What’s the deal with minimally invasive lumbar disc herniation

Minimally invasive treatment is preferred for lumbar disc herniation, i.e., a small hole of about 1mm is cut and the intervertebral foramen is directly accessed through this channel for treatment. Since the symptoms of lumbar disc herniation are related to the compression of the nerve root by the herniated disc, removing the herniated disc through minimally invasive means and relieving the compressed nerve root will improve the patient’s symptoms. Minimally invasive lumbar disc herniation surgery is widely used in lumbar spinal stenosis and lumbar disc herniation due to its less invasive nature, shorter hospitalization time, and relatively lower cost.
