What’s the difference between cholera and gastroenteritis

The difference between cholera and gastroenteritis mainly lies in the different pathogenic factors and pathogenesis. Cholera is an infectious disease caused by Vibrio cholerae infection, while gastroenteritis is an infectious disease mainly caused by other bacterial, viral, parasitic and other pathogens.
1. Causative factors: Gastroenteritis is mostly caused by bacterial infection, viral infection, parasitic infection as well as drug stress reaction, food allergy, etc. It is not an infectious disease.
Cholera is a category A enteric infectious disease, which is caused by consuming food or water containing Vibrio cholerae.
2. Pathogenesis: Gastroenteritis is caused by the stimulation of the body by infectious factors and foreign substances, which leads to tissue inflammation and increased immune response of the body, thus showing symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting. Cholera is mainly due to the secretion of cholera enterotoxin by Vibrio cholerae after infection, which leads to a large amount of fluid secretion from the intestinal tract, thus leading to the appearance of violent vomiting, the discharge of a large number of watery stools, and water-electrolyte disorders in the body.
Patients should seek prompt medical attention and follow medical advice.
