Palatopharyngoplasty procedure

Palatoplasty is performed mainly by the patient undergoing UPPP with transnasal tracheal intubation and general anesthesia. The tonsils are removed bilaterally and an inverted U-shaped incision is made on both sides of the uvula. The mucosa of the soft palate is incised and bluntly separated, and the excess fatty tissue under the mucosa is removed. Then the mucosa of the pharyngeal surface of the soft palate is incised along both sides of the uvula, and the excess mucosa at the connection between the lateral wall of the pharynx and the soft palate is removed, and then the mucosa and muscles of the uvula are preserved intact, and the tonsillar fossa and the mucosa of the soft palate on both sides are sutured in alignment, which is palatopharyngoplasty.
