Introduction to the Crohn’s Disease Nutrition Therapy Group

Crohn’s disease is a chronic granulomatous disease of the gastrointestinal tract of unknown origin. There is no specific treatment available and the main treatments are pharmacological, surgical and nutritional. Drugs include mesalazine, glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants and biological agents. Surgery is mainly aimed at patients with complications such as intestinal fistula, anal fistula, stricture, abscess, etc. when medical treatment is ineffective, and surgery is not curative, but serves to remove the diseased area. In addition to these two methods, enteral nutrition has been considered to be the main treatment. As a member of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, the Crohn’s Disease Nutrition Therapy Group consists of clinical dietitians who are responsible for nutritional screening, assessment, and development of nutritional protocols for Crohn’s disease, providing individualized and specialized nutritional therapy for patients with Crohn’s disease according to their condition.
