Thyroid diseases requiring iodine prohibition

There is a group of thyroid disorders called hyperthyroidism, the most common of which is hyperthyroidism caused by Graves’ disease. There is also hyperthyroidism caused by high iodine intake (or other iodine excess disease). These patients must be careful not to eat iodine tablets or foods rich in iodine. Hyperthyroidism and “thick neck disease” are not the same kind of disease. In addition to an enlarged thyroid gland, hyperthyroidism is also associated with protruding eyes, shaky hands, excessive sweating, panic attacks and increased bowel movements. Most hyperthyroidism does not require iodine supplementation and requires iodine abstinence so as not to interfere with the treatment of the disease. Iodine abstinence means not taking iodine-containing drugs and iodine-rich foods. For example, kelp, nori, seafood, etc., and drugs such as kombu, seaweed, iodine tablets, amiodarone, etc. The main concern of hyperthyroidism patients is whether they should consume iodized salt. All local salt companies have non-iodized salt for hyperthyroidism patients.
