The absolute value of lymphocytes in a normal person is (1.1-3.2) x 10^9/L. If lymphocytes exceed these normal values, the following possibilities should be noted: 1. Viral infections: Acute or chronic EBV infections are mostly characterized by an increase in the absolute value of lymphocytes. Acute EBV infection can cause infectious mononucleosis, which is characterized by fever, enlarged tonsils with pus, and swollen multiple lymph nodes with pain. Chronic EBV infection is characterized by prolonged fever, enlarged lymph nodes, liver damage, and hepatosplenomegaly. Cytomegalovirus infections also often present with elevated absolute lymphocyte values and are similar to EBV infections causing infectious mononucleosis in healthy individuals. However, tonsillar enlargement and suppuration are usually absent. Infections in immunocompromised people can cause pneumonia, hepatitis, esophagitis, colitis, retinitis, and other multi-organ involvement. In addition, rubella virus and mumps virus infections can also increase the absolute value of lymphocytes; 2. Bacterial infections: Mycobacterium pertussis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections can increase the absolute value of lymphocytes; 3. Blood diseases: lymphoma and lymphocytic leukemia can show an increase in the absolute value of lymphocytes, with the latter being significantly higher. It can also be seen in aplastic anemia, where the decrease in neutrophils leads to a high absolute lymphocyte value; 4, post-transplantation: when rejection occurs, the absolute lymphocyte value increases in the pre-rejection period. The treatment of high absolute lymphocyte value is related to the patient’s performance. If there is no obvious discomfort, pay attention to rest and drink more water, most of them can be relieved. However, if it is accompanied by self-induced fever and painful sensation, it can be treated according to the above-mentioned etiology, including antiviral drugs, antibacterial drugs, and chemotherapy, all of which should be carried out according to medical advice.
