After herpes zoster has healed, the blisters on the skin completely fade away. However, some patients may have a long-term legacy of localized neuralgia, which is mainly characterized by pain in the skin with an itchy sensation. This condition is often directly related to the inflammation and damage of the nerve at the time. In clinical practice, especially in elderly patients with poor immune resistance and in patients with inadequate treatment, neuralgia is more likely to remain. Neuralgia in herpes zoster is a difficult condition because many patients are treated alone for residual neuralgia, which is often ineffective and can seriously affect the patient’s quality of life.
