Patients with rhinitis do not usually experience significant pain in the back of the head. If the rhinitis is more severe, it will cause more pronounced nasal congestion and may cause some degree of swelling or pain in the head, often in the forehead or on both sides of the head. If a patient has significant pain in the back of the head, a careful and thorough examination of the nose is required. Some patients may have further sinus inflammation due to rhinitis, especially in the posterior septal sinus and pterygoid sinus, which may cause pain in the back of the head, and often require nasal imaging to determine this effectively.
