Can glioma metastasize in the brain?

Glioma may develop intracerebral metastasis. Glioma can be divided into three types: astrocytoma, ventricular meningioma, and medulloblastoma. Astrocytomas occur only in the brain parenchyma and rarely metastasize in the brain. Metastases may occur only after surgery, as the tumor may break up during surgery and the cells shed from the tumor may metastasize to other places. Ventricular meningioma and medulloblastoma occur in the ventricular system and may metastasize before surgery. The cells shed from the tumor may spread throughout the brain with the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and may even metastasize to the spinal canal.
