If the eyes appear puffy, most of them are physiological edema, and only a small portion is pathologic edema. Physiological edema can be relieved by changing positions. If the edema is caused by lying down for too long when waking up in the morning, standing up for a longer period of time will significantly improve the symptoms of eye edema. Pathological edema can only be improved by active therapeutic interventions. In patients with hypoproteinemia due to various reasons, active protein supplementation based on diuresis is needed to increase plasma colloid osmolality and thus reduce the symptoms of ocular edema. If the eye edema is caused by sodium retention due to renal insufficiency, diuresis needs to be strengthened to improve the related symptoms. If it progresses to uremia, dialysis treatment is also needed to reduce edema if necessary.
