Can adults get Kawasaki disease?

Adults do not usually get Kawasaki disease. It has been found that the highest incidence of Kawasaki disease is in children under the age of 5 years, with very few adults having their first attack. Kawasaki disease; is a systemic vasculitis disease and is characterized by fever, skin rash, congestion of the mucous membranes, and enlarged lymph nodes; although it is a self-limiting disease, it may lead to complications such as myocarditis, heart valve regurgitation, and cardiac arrhythmias, which can lead to prolonged illness and affect the health of the child. The cause of Kawasaki disease is unclear and may be related to infections, genetics, and immune factors; a recurrence cannot be ruled out in adults who have had Kawasaki disease infections in childhood. Children suspected of having Kawasaki disease should consult the pediatric department of the hospital in a timely manner; after the diagnosis is confirmed, treatment should be carried out under the guidance of the doctor to avoid coronary artery lesions as much as possible.
