What’s a butterfly sinus?

The pterygoid sinus is one of the paranasal sinuses of the body. The paranasal sinuses of the human body can be categorized into the pterygoid sinus, sieve sinus, maxillary sinus and frontal sinus. The pterygoid sinus is a bony cavity structure in the human body, mainly located in the center of the human skull, behind the bilateral nostrils, below the sieve sinus, opening below the sieve sinus opening of the middle nasal tract, the top wall of the pterygoid sinus is the base of the skull, the bottom wall is the top of the nasopharynx, and the outer wall is the middle cranial fossa. The capacity of bilateral pterygoid sinus is about 20ml, its height is about 20mm and width is about 15mm. its function is mainly to help the human body to resonate when the human body vocalizes, to form the stereo sound, and to regulate the humidity of the nasal cavity and the pressure of the nasal cavity. Most of the intracranial tumors are operated through pterygoid sinus approach, which is very traumatic, and the pterygoid sinus is easy to be inflamed, so it is necessary to keep the nasal cavity clean in normal times.
