Myelodysplasia, also known as myelodysplastic syndrome, is not a terminal disease. Bone marrow is the main blood-producing tissue in the human body. If a patient suffers from myelodysplastic syndrome, the bone marrow in the patient’s body tends to be ineffective in producing blood or the number of whole blood cells decreases, so patients suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome will usually develop leukemia if they are not actively treated. If the patient actively cooperates with treatment, such as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or chemotherapy, it is still possible to cure the disease.
