When should ivabradine hydrochloride tablets be taken

Ivabrel hydrochloride tablets are used to reduce heart rate and are recommended to be taken with morning and evening meals. In the fasted state the drug is rapidly and completely absorbed, with a peak blood concentration time of one hour. The absolute bioavailability of film-coated tablets is 40% due to first-pass effects in the intestine and liver. Food may cause a one-hour delay in absorption and is a 20%-30% increase in exposure to plasma concentrations. Therefore, to reduce individual differences in exposure, it is recommended that it be taken with food in the morning and evening. The drug is generally used to lower the heart rate, so care should be taken to always monitor the heart rate level closely when using it and to discontinue the drug if the patient develops bradycardia. For example, if a patient’s heart rate is consistently below 50 beats per minute, or if symptoms of bradycardia develop, the drug must be discontinued. Ivabradine hydrochloride tablets are contraindicated in elderly patients aged 75 years or older, in patients with renal insufficiency, and in patients with hepatic impairment. The dose should not be adjusted in patients with mild impairment, but should be used with caution in patients with moderate impairment. It should preferably be contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic insufficiency.
