What causes children to drool in their sleep at night

Children drooling in bed at night may be caused by physiological factors; however, it may also be caused by upper respiratory tract infections, oral ulcers and other disease factors.
1. Physiological factors: newborn salivary glands in the oral cavity gradually develop and mature, saliva secretion increased, and at this time the newborn’s facial muscles are not yet developed, chewing ability is not enough, and shallow mouth, resulting in drooling during sleep. If the sleeping position is not right, localized pressure may also lead to drooling.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) upper respiratory tract infection: a disease caused by viruses, bacteria, mycoplasma and other pathogenic microorganisms infecting the upper respiratory tract, the clinical manifestations of nasal congestion, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, etc., the child may not be able to breathe well due to nasal congestion, and have to change to breathe through the mouth, resulting in drooling in the night.
(2) Oral ulcers: complex etiology, occurring on the lips, tongue, soft palate and other parts of the skin lesions are round or oval, and there is a clear red halo around the lesions, accompanied by pain, and in severe cases, it can affect eating and speaking. The child may not swallow because swallowing aggravates the pain, resulting in drooling in bed at night.
