Symptoms of bile duct dilatation are common, but the presentation is also complex. Bile duct dilatation manifests with some non-specific symptoms, mainly digestive symptoms with acid reflux, indigestion, bloating, abdominal pain and even diarrhea. In addition, bile duct dilatation, manifests with symptoms of biliary irritation. According to the etiology generally bile duct dilatation is considered to be caused by obstruction due to tumor, bile duct stones or inflammation. The main symptoms of bile duct dilatation in obstruction caused by stones and inflammatory edema in the lower biliary tract alone are fever, jaundice, and abdominal pain, but this jaundice is fluctuating and will subside after the inflammation subsides, and the patient’s symptoms will be completely relieved after the obstruction is lifted by conservative treatment and surgery. In some patients, the lesion develops further and can cause recurrent biliary tract infections. If a tumor of the lower bile duct is considered to be the cause, the jaundice will further deepen and cause generalized itching and increasing symptoms of biliary tract infection, which can only be relieved mainly by surgical treatment. In some cases, the bile ducts are congenitally dilated and sometimes a mass can be palpated in the abdomen, which can usually cause bile duct cancer at a later stage and also requires early surgical intervention.
