A few pitfalls to guard against in varicose vein treatment

Patient: varicose veins were discovered in the eighties, one leg was operated in 1987, there is now a recurrence, the other leg is now severe, sore when standing, sometimes painful and itchy, heat in the varicose area, bruising in the ankle, what is a good treatment, less painful, fast and no side effects. Is it curable? Thank you! Patient: Hello, Dr. Ju! Thank you for your care. I saw your clinic yesterday, but I’m sorry to take up more of your time because I saw too many patients. 2.What is the most effective method for valve repair without recurrence? 3.Is interventional therapy the same thing as laser surgery? If not, which one is better in terms of method and effect? 4.What kind of surgery is suitable for my condition, and will it recur afterwards? Thank you, Dr. Ju. Sorry for the delay. I’m sorry for taking your time, but I’m too uncomfortable for my first surgery, so I have more concerns now. Beijing Dongzhimen Hospital Peripheral Vascular Surgery Department, Ju Shang: Thank you for your trust! 1.Elastic stockings + medicine can control the development of varicose veins, but cannot cure them. In the process of conservative treatment, elastic stockings are the first and drugs are the second. 2.The veins of lower limbs are divided into two groups, deep and shallow, each with valves, saphenous varicose refers to the damaged valves of the shallow group, and the treatment does not use the method of repair, but direct ligation, only the valves of the deep group of veins have repair surgery. (This is the common method on the earth at present, for the superficial group of venous valve damage, if someone says “repair valve”, it must be a liar, please do not fall for it). 3, and then clarify the second problem: there is no “interventional” method to treat varicose veins, I myself am an interventional doctor, and I have to attend at least 10 international and domestic academic conferences of interventional professions every year, and I haven’t heard of interventional methods to treat varicose veins (if someone says they can use interventional methods to treat varicose veins. Then there are only two possibilities: either it is an extremely advanced method that can qualify for medical awards, or it is a fraud). 4.Laser treatment is only one of the minimally invasive methods for treating varicose veins, commonly used are: punctal stripping, radiofrequency, electrocoagulation, angioscopy, sclerotherapy injections and so on. Which method is suitable needs to be decided according to the doctor’s experience and the specific situation of the affected area. We usually combine several methods and use about 2-3 of them for a patient. 5, varicose veins used to be a routine procedure, just like appendix and hernia. Not too many people have been devoted to it. It is only in these ten years that the hospital has gradually established the specialty of vascular surgery, so the doctors have the energy and ability to study this treatment more carefully, so the surgical methods now are not the same as 20 years ago, for a simple example: in the past, the valve ligation of the saphenous vein required an 8-10 cm incision, but now it only requires 2-3 cm. In the past, bed rest was required after surgery, but now patients are asked to get out of bed on the second day after surgery to promote recovery. So you don’t have to be too worried about the surgery. If you are not at ease, with your age, it is also perfectly fine to start with conservative treatment and observe for 1-2 years to see what happens before deciding.
