Misconceptions about varicose vein treatment in the lower extremities

It may not be strange to mention varicose veins in the lower extremities, which are the worm-like protruding vein masses in the calves or even the inner thighs, while some patients have varicose veins that are not obvious, but their doctors also diagnose venous lesions. In fact, varicose veins in the lower extremities are a symptom and not a disease; they can be caused by a variety of diseases. Just like fever, it can be caused by many diseases. It is now collectively referred to as lower extremity venous insufficiency. In the treatment of lower limb venous insufficiency, there may be the following misconceptions: Misconception 1: Hot water soaking feet can reduce varicose veins Many patients think that hot water soaking feet is not only comfortable but also reduce varicose veins, and feel that the hotter the water the better, which is actually an incorrect idea. We all know the truth of heat expansion and cold contraction. The varicose veins themselves are caused by various reasons (genetics, standing work, etc.) that cause the veins to function badly and cause the venous blood to accumulate in the superficial veins, so if you soak in hot water again, the blood vessels will expand, which will aggravate the varicose veins and swelling. Myth 2: Massage can reduce varicose veins Nowadays, massage stores can be found everywhere. Massage can indeed relieve the fatigue of the day and reduce the discomfort caused by varicose veins, but it is not much good for the varicose veins that are already protruding, especially for the varicose veins with red and painful lower limbs, which are absolutely forbidden. The varicose veins with redness and pain in the lower limbs may be inflamed by the formation of thrombus in the blood of long-term varicose veins, and if you go for massage at this time, it is likely that the thrombus will be squeezed into the deep veins during the massage process, which will cause serious consequences such as pulmonary embolism with the blood flow to the pulmonary artery. There are some long-term varicose veins patients, there may be hidden thrombus, after exertion, travel will cause local redness, swelling and pain, usually no big deal, if the massage, will also occur pulmonary embolism coma. The report published recently is such a case. Misconception three: “a needle” to remove varicose veins Sclerotherapy needle can make the protruding veins “disappear”, the principle is that the sclerosing agent makes the blood vessels bond together, the surface can not be seen, but not completely removed. Sclerotherapy does work in some patients with varicose veins, but it is not suitable for all patients. It is only indicated in very mild cases, or in a small number of recurrences after surgery. The advertised “one shot” does not completely remove the varicose veins and is prone to recurrence and complications of phlebitis, making surgery more difficult. Therefore, treatment should be done under the guidance of a doctor. Do not believe in the advertisements. The principle of surgical treatment is to remove the varicose veins and reduce the complications. There are traditional surgical vein stripping methods with large surgical incisions, while our ward uses imported Olympus ablation equipment without any incisions, which is another way of “hidden stripping” and has a very short recovery time after surgery. It is worthy of attention. Therefore, patients with varicose veins should enhance their awareness of self-maintenance, and those with symptoms should go to a regular hospital as soon as possible and be treated under the guidance of a doctor. Don’t wait for the emergence of serious complications and then seek medical help indiscriminately, thus missing the best time for treatment.
