What medication to take for high total cholesterol and LDL

Patients with high total cholesterol and LDL can take statins, fibrates, niacin, cholesterol absorption inhibitors, fish oil, etc. in appropriate amounts under medical advice. Statins can be chosen from ezetimibe simvastatin tablets and atorvastatin. Ezetimibe Simvastatin Tablets is a combination of lipid-lowering drugs, containing both simvastatin and ezetimibe, so it has a dual mechanism of action, inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver while also inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine, which can strongly reduce LDL by more than 50%. Among all lipid-lowering drugs, its effect is better, and its safety and tolerability are comparable to those of conventional doses of statin monotherapy. Atorvastatin is a medium-strength lipid-lowering drug, which can lower blood lipids, but also protect endothelial cells and stabilize plaque. Moreover, because of its strong lipid solubility, its metabolism and excretion mainly go through the liver rather than the kidney, so it can be used in patients with renal insufficiency. Long-term use of statins may cause elevated blood glucose, such as elevated fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin, and may even lead to new-onset diabetes, or exacerbation of diabetes. Moreover, all statins can produce certain adverse effects, such as muscle pain and elevated liver enzymes, and patients should consult their physicians before taking them.
