How long does it take for the vaginal plug to be absorbed?

Intravaginal medications take different amounts of time to melt depending on the form of the medication. The most commonly used vaginal medications are suppositories, gels, ointments or effervescent tablets. The fastest melting are the gels and ointments, which have a larger area of attachment to the vaginal wall and are fully absorbed within 6 hours. Vaginal effervescent tablets can be absorbed within 8 hours after entering the vagina by releasing a melting aid in the effervescent tablet. Vaginal administration should be placed in the posterior vagina for best absorption and to prevent the drug from falling out.
