The hands are the windows through which people touch the world, and they are used all the time to perceive and transform the world. Hand skin disorders have become one of the most common disorders in people’s daily lives, and we will now briefly discuss the prevention and treatment of hand dermatitis (also known as hand eczema). The causes of hand dermatitis are mainly of two types, one, irritating factors, and one, allergic factors, which are completely different. The skin is the shell of a person, a barrier that protects the body from external substances, and the integrity of the skin is the key to preventing irritant dermatitis. If you are allergic to eczema, asthma, hives since childhood; if you suffer from ichthyosis; if your skin is white and tender, if you are a woman who has just given birth, or the elderly with dry flaky skin, then your skin’s natural protective properties are poor, moisture is easy to seep out, and toxic substances are easy to enter, it is easy to occur irritant dermatitis, should pay attention to protect the skin. The work of the acid and alkali, corrosive agents are common irritants, these you may already know, but some tiny stimulation you may not notice, the accumulation of time will also cause irritant dermatitis. For example: repeated contact with water and detergents work; repeated contact with solvents work; repeated contact with cement and other construction materials work; repeated contact with oil, paint work; repeated contact with food work. If you are engaged in the above-mentioned work, you should take appropriate protection. In addition to the direct stimulation of various substances in the above jobs, other factors such as abrasion can also aggravate irritant dermatitis. For example, in a dry climate, the skin becomes dry and flaky and itchy, when some dust and fumes in the air are prone to produce irritant dermatitis in the above areas. In hot or humid weather, you may also often get irritant dermatitis in the armpits, groin or other areas where clothing rubs easily due to sweating. Unlike irritant dermatitis, atopic dermatitis is more important. Although it is not as common as irritant dermatitis, severe dermatitis can occur once you are allergic to a substance and then exposed to that substance. To determine if you are allergic to a particular substance, the most reliable method is the patch test. The patch test involves applying a concentrated cream or solution of a variety of allergenic substances, or substances that you believe to be allergenic, to the normal skin of your back for two days and then removing it to observe the results. Contact allergy can take weeks or even years to develop, so you may use something for years without a reaction, but once sensitized, you can develop dermatitis if you are then exposed to the substance. Chronic skin irritation causing irritant dermatitis can disrupt the skin barrier, making it easier for allergens to enter the body and greatly increasing the likelihood of allergies. It is important to treat dermatitis right away because when the skin is inflamed, it is less protected and more likely to have an allergic reaction to many substances to which it is not allergic. Treatment of hand dermatitis can be done with topical corticosteroids and other medications, or anti-infective medications if secondary infections occur, which your doctor will help you with. To protect your hands, first of all, do not use alkaline soap or non-skin cleansers when washing your hands, and do not wash your hands too many times a day, just for cleaning purposes. If your hands are dry and cracked or flaky, use hand oil or silicone cream. Wear gloves when in contact with irritating substances. As long as you always pay attention to the care of your hands in your work life, dexterity, healthy hands will bring you greater happiness!
