There are physiologic and pathologic reasons for newborns to spit out their tongues, such as indigestion, pneumonia, oral ulcers and so on.
1. Physiological reasons: Because the swallowing function of newborns is not yet well developed, they can’t swallow the saliva in time, so they may spit out their tongues, which is a normal physiological phenomenon.
2. Pneumonia: because the neural reflex function of newborns is not well developed, so when newborns have pneumonia, they may cough due to the slow reflex, or the stimulation of inflammation makes them uncomfortable, and the phenomenon of spitting out their tongues occurs.
3. Mouth ulcers: If a newborn develops ulcers and inflammation in the mouth, causing pain and other discomfort, the newborn may also spit out his or her tongue.
If you observe the newborn choking, shortness of breath, refusal of milk, spitting, spitting up and other manifestations, you should promptly go to the neonatology department of the hospital to find out the cause of the problem and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
