Wisdom tooth extraction or not?
Let’s start with what wisdom teeth are. What we often call wisdom teeth are actually the third molars (people generally have the first and second molars), commonly known as wisdom teeth. The four wisdom teeth begin to form in the upper and lower jaws, just like the other teeth, but are the last molars to grow out of the mouth. The wisdom teeth are formed at age 9, while the crowns are formed at about age 14 and emerge in the mouth by the end of adolescence. However, not everyone has wisdom teeth, or all four of them. And even if they do, many people have them extracted.
Wisdom teeth that should be removed
1. Tooth decay.
If the wisdom teeth are decayed, except for the simple decay on the occlusal surface which is not deep enough to be filled, we suggest to extract all those decayed teeth on the adjoining surface which need good technology, and those decayed so deep that even need root canal treatment to eliminate the future problems.
2.Infringement of adjacent teeth.
Usually there is not enough space for the eruption of wisdom teeth and they will fall on the second molar, thus causing the second molar to be difficult to clean and even the phenomenon of partial tooth resorption, causing discomfort or toothache to the patient.
3. Insufficient space.
Wisdom teeth belong to the fading state in the evolutionary history of human beings. Because the dental arch is also getting smaller and smaller, lack of space is very common. The swelling and painful feeling can be felt when eruption occurs. Many people just can’t tolerate this painful feeling and decide to extract their wisdom teeth.
4. Cleaning is not easy.
Due to the lack of space, blind pockets are often formed on top of the wisdom teeth, and a lot of food residues will enter when eating and are not easy to remove. Due to the repeated stimulation of food residues, it will cause congestion and swelling, leading to pericoronitis of the wisdom tooth.
5, no to bite teeth:.
As mentioned earlier, not everyone’s four wisdom teeth will grow together. Therefore, if there are no opposing wisdom teeth to bite, sometimes excessive eruption of the wisdom teeth can occur, which in turn affects the bite.
6. Interrupted teeth.
Usually this is the most annoying type that the dentist will find difficult to get right, but the patient does not always feel it and therefore ignores it. This type of tooth, usually buried in the alveolar bone, if it is painful or diagnosed to have a lesion, it needs to be extracted.
If there are no symptoms, is it not necessary to extract?
If you are in a doctor’s position, you will usually be advised to have them removed to avoid any future problems, so it is once painful, lifetime immunity. However, if you feel that your wisdom tooth is not hindering you, then you can decide for yourself whether you want to pull it out or not.
Wisdom teeth that are worth keeping.
1. Those with a relatively positive position and expected to erupt normally.
2.Wisdom teeth with no history of inflammation and pain in the soft tissue around the crown and no decay of the wisdom tooth.
3.Wisdom teeth with a pair of biting teeth.
