Fever, runny nose and cough do not necessarily mean influenza. If these local symptoms are relatively obvious or even severe and are the main clinical manifestation, and systemic symptoms are absent or relatively mild, generally speaking, common cold is more common. In the case of influenza, these local symptoms are relatively mild, while the systemic symptoms are more serious, such as more obvious generalized aches and pains, weakness, depression, loss of appetite, etc. In addition, influenza is widely contagious and is relatively much stronger than the common cold. For example, if one person in a family suffers from influenza, the others can easily be infected and thus develop symptoms.
