Children and pregnant women should be aware of rubella

Rubella is a seasonal, viral infection that occurs in late winter and early spring. Rubella virus is found in the mouth, nasopharynx, secretions, blood and urine of patients and is spread through the respiratory tract mainly by droplets. When a person is infected with rubella virus, symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection such as mild fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, etc. may appear in a typical patient after 1 to 2 days of fever and a light red rash that appears on the face and neck and spreads rapidly down the trunk and extremities, usually lasting 3 to 5 days. The fever and rash are accompanied by upper respiratory tract infections and swollen lymph nodes behind the ears, neck and occipital area. If you have rubella, you should first rest and avoid contact with others, especially kindergarten children, school and university students, who must not go to kindergarten with the disease or insist on going to school; otherwise, it is easy to infect others and cause a concentrated illness. Chinese herbal medicine is very effective for rubella: at different times of the disease, you can take tonics to clear heat and detoxify the body, dispel and penetrate the surface, and invigorate the blood and cool the blood, and you should eat a light, easy-to-digest, vitamin-rich diet, avoid seafood, beef and mutton and other hairy items, and also avoid eating raw and cold food. In addition, we should also pay attention to the room temperature not too cold and too hot. It is worth mentioning that when a pregnant woman is infected with rubella virus in the first three months of pregnancy, the virus in her blood can enter the fetus through the placenta and damage the brain, heart, eyes, ears and bone marrow hematopoietic system of the fetus, resulting in congenital rubella syndrome. Therefore, for pregnant women in early pregnancy, it is especially important to stay away from rubella patients, and once rubella virus infection is detected, they should choose whether they need to terminate the pregnancy under the guidance of a doctor.
