Causes of loss of taste

The causes of loss of taste may be due to nutritional deficiencies, nerve damage, aging, dry mouth or fungal infections.

1. Lack of vitamin A, zinc, iron and other trace elements, nutritional deficiencies can lead to atrophy of taste buds and so on, resulting in loss of taste.

2. Nerve damage caused by facial nerve palsy, cerebral hemorrhage, etc. can lead to impaired taste perception.

3. Ageing will lead to atrophy of tongue papillae and lower sensitivity of taste buds.

4. Low salivary secretion and dryness in the mouth may affect flavor transmission, and the taste buds may not be able to feel the flavor or the sense of taste may be reduced.

5. Candida and other fungal infections in the mouth can block the taste sensation, resulting in hyposmia.
