Celosia argentea is a traditional Chinese medicine, for the amaranth plant Celosia argentea stems and leaves or roots. This product has the effect of drying dampness and clearing heat, killing insects and stopping itching, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. It is used in the treatment of damp-heat under the belt, turbid urine, diarrhea, scabies, wind-rotting, epistaxis, trauma bleeding and other conditions. Its adverse reactions, contraindications and precautions are not clear at present.
It is used internally as decoction; externally as poultice or decoction and fumigation. Clinically, it is often used in decoction with maidservant and cranesbill to treat cholera; decoction of Celosia argentea stems and leaves for bronchitis and gastroenteritis; and pounding of Celosia argentea stems and leaves externally for carbuncle sores and boils.
