HPV 16 negative means that no HPV 16 infection is found. HPV, known as human papillomavirus, is a viral infection associated with cervical cancer. There are more than 160 subtypes of HPV, 14 of which are closely related to the development of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions and cervical cancer, and are referred to as high-risk HPV infections. Based on the cancer-causing potential of HPV, these more than 160 subtypes are divided into high-risk and low-risk types. HPV 16 negative means no infection with HPV type 16.
