Children with mild autism can attend school because their language skills are well developed and they can express themselves and understand others. However, children with autism tend to be more capricious, more emotional and excited, less likely to be disciplined in the classroom, less able to understand the non-body language intentions of their peers, and less able to socialize than normal. Before or during school, behavioral therapy or special education can be used to help children with autism correct poor behavior, promote good social behavior, increase self-confidence, and support and help children deal with stressful events.
