Is a diastolic blood pressure of 90 considered high blood pressure?

Diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg is hypertension. 2018 Chinese hypertension guidelines were revised to specify the criteria for hypertension as ≥140/90 mmHg, which means that systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg are considered hypertensive. Hypertension is diagnosed if the blood pressure is ≥140/90mmHg when measured more than three times on non-same day. Diastolic blood pressure of 90mmHg is the early stage of hypertension, patients can exercise and diet control. At this point the patient also has to determine if there is target organ damage, or the presence of complications. If complications are present, the patient may need medication. For example, diabetes, which is known as a critical condition such as coronary artery disease, patients need to be treated. If the patient has a history of cerebral infarction or a combined family history of early onset cardiovascular disease, medication is required. If diastolic blood pressure is found to be ≥ 90 mmHg, the patient needs to seek prompt medical attention and get proper guidance from the physician, requiring either an exercise prescription, or a dietary prescription, or a medication prescription for treatment.
